Slowphotography Strasbourg - The revival of Wet-plate Collodion

"Slowphotography" is a term describing a tendency of contemporary photographers to preferably use ancient photography techniques in response to the acceleration of this art  that will inevitably lead to its decay. Thousands of photos , "selfies" and "snaps" are taken every single day, the act of taking a picture of somebody or something  has become an ordinary, daily action, which took its charm, its life and its magic away. By reverting to ancient techniques that need not only an artistic eye, a talent for manual labour and some know-how in chemistry, but also time before anything else, the artist makes a tribute to the art of photography by sacrificing the whole of his heart in the pursuit of creating an image that really deserves to be called a piece of art. Before photography loses all of its core values which make it genuinely unique amongst today's representative arts, "Slowphotography" goes back to its quintessence and tries to revive the magic of creating an image that reflects the heart and soul of the human-being drowning in conformism.

For me, this project has two purposes: on the one hand, it will allow me to re-discover my passion's various facets which have been overshadowed by today's terrifying masses of "pseudo-photography" that can be found on the net, and on the other hand I want to participate in the photographers' international movement who try to avoid true photography and its origins being forgotten. To make sure to reach a big audience, every shooting will be publicly accessible and in interaction with whoever is keen on venturing into a photographic world that he or she probably hasn't know yet. Taking a photo of a loved-one or an unforgettable moment has once been a unique, costly "once in a lifetime"-experience, and looking at a portrait of oneself a miraculous, almost surreal feeling. This project wants to provide all of these impressions to everybody who dares stepping in front of the lens.
